    Artist History
In the business of being a band in the expanse of Christian music, three elements serve as the measuring stick for gauging the substance of a group: the music, the show, and the ministry. In the case of Rain on the Land, the rock band from Northeast Oklahoma, each element is met and exceeded with their brand of rock and roll. With the release of the band's third effort, something more, the group puts its strongest foot forward: powerful music with an even more powerful message. From the driving guitars and intent themes of "Minute More" and "Tide", to the intimate song of true love "Compelled", the band is eager to share all their Savior has done for them through music they truly love. The band's music - strong drive, punchy guitars, contagious melodies, passionate lyrics - continues to win over fans with varying musical backgrounds and tastes. With something more, the band has enjoyed glowing reviews from fans and critics alike. A July/August 2001 HM Magzine review commented "their song writing strengths lie in that soft to loud to soft to loud area" and commented that the band takes some risks on the album to which the columnist added "they are going to pay off in the next couple years if they keep that door open." A May 2001 review from the online Christian music resource The Phantom Tollbooth, highly praised the album noting "With this variety it allows any listener to easily plug into it, no matter the age, music taste or mood. And it will most definitely inspire anyone with its powerful lyrics." To see Rain on the Land in concert is to experience rock and roll. The band's energy, emotion, and spirit are easily evident to those in attendance. The group's recent nomination for "Top Gospel Act" at the 2001 Spotnik Music Awards honoring the best of Tulsa, OK area music is just one piece of evidence to the band's abilities. The best proof, however, is the fans attending the show and leaving with a smile on their face. "Playing live is by far one of the coolest things we get to do. To put everything we are into the music God has given us and share it with people," says drummer Kevin Miller, "there's nothing like it." The group has had the privilege of playing with several national acts including Switchfoot, Pillar, and Philmore, as well as headlining shows as far away as Arizona, Wisconsin, and Indiana. The band relishes every chance to play on the road and takes advantage of every opportunity to put on a great show. Looking past the music, looking past the shows, what's left is the band's heart. The four members of Rain on the Land are in distinct agreement as to the direction and focus of the group. Bassist Josh Howard comments that "All I really want is to show people that God's Word isn't always delivered by a preacher or a mellow band." Through the band's live show, every opportunity is taken to share God's love to the audience. Getting to be a part of that is second to none. "I love those times in shows where you see the people receive something that you said, and later find that it was a turning point in their life, that is the best part of what we do," adds singer/guitarist Josh Wright. Not only does the group recognize the true importance of what they do musically and on the stage, it's acknowledged as individuals and friends as well. Guitarist Jason Ratliff shares "For us as a group when we're faced with tough decisons, I love to see God stretch us and learn that in the end, He has the steering wheel." The future is continuing to look great for Rain on the Land. A busy live schedule, new strong material, and unfading focus, desire, and energy will push the group on. Wright adds, "Playing professionally has always been a dream of ours, and to make a living on something that makes you so happy is everyone's dream. I would love to do this full-time, but I am glad to say that I'm a part of all the things this band gets to do." To the band, there is no question as to what needs be the center of their ministry. With one voice, each member shares that it's important to use the abilities and gifts given them to honor God with all they do. But after hearing the music, experiencing the show, and witnessing the ministry, Rain on the Land hopes that you also can find something more..
