Artist History
Once childhood rivals two brothers and a cousin from Arkansas unite to form a tri-force unparallel within a type cast music scene. Formed in the summer of 1996, the band formerly known as Kapers erupted in the midst of the grungy and mellow scene in Eugene, Oregon. The band struggled with lack of acceptance by refusing to play Greatful Dead covers in such a laissez-fare society, however, attained a small but loyal following of neo-rock enthusiasts. Through their great strife the band challenged the normative music scene stretching rock and roll to its farthest limits and beyond. Currently based in Portland, Oregon, Noumena still yearns for kindred bands to fit the bill. Many a venue has struggled to find a brethren act to accompany these urban pioneers on their great crusade across the hills and valleys of sound. Best experienced live, Noumena serves up a variety of originals in many styles that keep you guessing. Vocals are disbursed throughout the lineup and each member brings their own perspective to the mic. “I like songs that tell a story with a vivid narrative and close attention to intricate detail.” says Kyley. Dave has a different philosophy, “On a few songs I just make up the words as I go, mess with the crowd, maybe throw in some gangsta rap.” The players describe Noumena’s music as Sci-Fi Indie Surf Rock Surprise. Even if the genre is hard to lock down the combination proves captivating to even the shortest attention spans. |
