    Artist History
Originally formed in an accidental jam session of strangers at a house in Liberty, SC back in 1993, Idle Minds emerged into an "alternative" scene as a then-unheard-of "punk" band [remember, this is before Green Day hit the radio]. Being a punk band in a grunge-era was not kind to the 'Minds, because this was before the punk trend's uprising with the mainstream advent of groups like Green Day and the Offspring. The original jam session included a total of about 7 people, ranging from a large lesbian folk guitarist named Becky, a metalhead drummer named Jason, an alt-geek guitarist named Tim, a pop-metal-alternative bassist named David, a grunge-inspired guitarist named Danny and a classic rock-type guitarist named Heath. After attempting a few songs, the large group dispersed for cigarette and refreshment breaks, and the first four to re-enter the practice room were Danny, Tim, Heath and David. Danny automatically sat behind the drumset and wanted to just bang around on a song or two, and the foursome played a few familiar tunes, ranging from Nirvana and Danzig to the Sex Pistols. The sound was much less cluttered without the rest of the ensemble there, and the 4 secretly agreed to meet again, sans the rest of the group. After a few rehearsals as a quartet, they decided to oust Tim from the 2nd guitar position and become a trio.A few months passed, and due to little progress and a general sense of apathy Danny and Heath replaced David with a high school chum and former bandmate named Zack. The trio recorded demoes and actually tried out a few different rhythm guitarists with no avail until Danny decided one day he no longer wanted to play drums. The same week he left the 'Minds he was replaced by Mickey, Zack & Heath's drummer from their high-school project. Danny was soon invited back into the band as the 2nd guitarist after his enthusiasm to play with them again.Over the course of the fall and winter of 1995, the very strong and promising new Idle Minds were faced with violent personality conflicts, deceit, artistic differences and outside influences. Zack left the band in November of '95, leaving Heath and Danny to trade off bass duties til Heath's resignation in January 1996 because of personal issues with some of the band's hangers-on. Idle Minds were dead. From February til May of '96, Mickey briefly reunited with Heath on bass to join up with Glenn Cannon to revive the Clemson multi-genre act Psychopossum. Mickey and Heath were at odds constantly, and that soon came imploded. Heath went on to form the Fencejumpers, while Danny co-formed Turncoat with a somewhat egotistical primadonna singer, Mickey played in several cover bands and miscellaneous projects and Zack worked on several personal projects. In mid '99, Mickey, Heath and Zack reformed for some informal jamming and to mend old wounds personally. It was a brief but pleasing time, although it did not take off due to other commitments by all 3 members. In March of 2001, Heath was approached by the promoter of the Iron Horse, the old coffehouse/teen-hangout where the band cut their teeth, regarding the re-opening of the venue, and the last original lineup of the 'Minds were invited to do the grand opening show. Surprisingly enough, all 3 other members jumped on the idea with much enthusiasm and anticipation. The guys met at the Easley McDonald's for dinner one Sunday evening, and within 15 minutes, everything was back to 'normal' and it was like no time had passed between them. OK, it was a little different, cause now 2 of the 4 are married, and the band was all grown up, somewhat. The "deal" was a show for a one-time event, and then presumably the band would ultimately call it quits for good on an amicable note. But after the ill-fated 'Horse show (little to no attendance thanks to some VERY poor management & no promotion) Zack was to be the only one not sticking around after the show, so Mick, Dan and Heath kept a band going afterwards, although it too was to be short-lived. The new group was dubbed the Slamhounds, and took a little more 'rock' approach than the 'Minds did. With the ongoing Fencejumpers keeping Heath busy 1/2 the time and the growing animosity from the other two [the worst case being the FJ's debut Handlebar performance, which was coincidentally sabotaged], the band gave up the ghost & the three permanently parted ways. Burning out is often better than fading away, or at least this writer has heard that many times. Either way, enjoy this brief but exciting resurgance of Upstate South Carolina's once most-promising up-and-coming punk band!
