Artist History
Fling was founded in 1994 by Kenley Young and James Touzel, longtime friendsfrom Georgetown, S.C. The two began playing and writing music together, withYoung at lead vocals and rhythm guitar and Touzel playing bass. Later that year, lead guitarist Justus Jagger and drummer Ronnie Cleland joined their ranks, andthe foundations for Fling were laid. After performing extensively on the Myrtle Beach club circuit under the nameJunction 51, the band recorded its first full-length CD of original material, Bullin a China Shop. The self-released, 13-song disc sold well in the area, but the bandmembers took a small hiatus from performing in 1997, their first year of college atthe University of South Carolina.Near the end of that year, the members of Junction 51 began honing and definingtheir sound into an even dosage of rock, power pop and ballads. By 1998, Junction51 decided it was time for another name to complement their newly discoveredsound. After performing the rest of that year as The Speakeasies, the boyschristened themselves as Fling. In 2000, they recorded The View from the Valley, a5-song EP, and have since been writing new material, concentrating on futureshows and sharing the bill with high-profile artists like Nine Days, Jagged Edgeand The Glands. |
