Artist History
Formed through the Loughborough Students Union Musicians Society in late 1999, SPC recruited the local alternative DJ to front the band. They played a few gigs at the Students Union, flunked the audition for the annual Musoc band night, and played at Loughborough FreeFest in front of around a thousand disinterested students. That summer, DJ Thirde (Dave) graduated and moved to Kingston. These events were not enough to prevent the mighty SPC from their quest for glory (ha!).During November SPC recorded the five tracks they had written to date, in the new SU recording studio and invited Dave up to do the vocals. It all went smoothly, thanks to the consummate recording skills of Greg Turner. After Christmas the incredible Akshay Bhandarkar, who has taken the band to a new level of intensity (rock cliché), joined SPC. With 3 new songs added to the set, the last few gigs have been awesome, receiving much acclaim. SPC were recently voted 3rd out of 12 local bands in the judging for this year's FreeFest (7th May, Loughborough SU). That's a pretty amazing result for a metal band in Loughborough, where Britpop covers and bland funk rock are the usual favourites. The CD has turned out to be pretty damn good. The tracks 'Represent', '8·4·8 Break' and 'The Dukes of Jizm' have been played on the campus radio, and at SU events. This 5 track EP will almost certainly be the catalyst for bigger and better things, breaking out of Loughborough, and reaching a wider more appreciative audience. |
