Artist History
Formed in Montreal in 1992 (current formation established in 1999), ryde's kick-ass tunes have been bringing people out in droves. Originally a four-piece outfit, ryde started off as most bands do by opening for other local fat cat acts. Naturally, the fan base grew as more and more people began to embrace the unique ryde vibe. During the chill of the 1998 Ice Storm, we built our studio and recorded our first demo album in April of the same year. The album ended up being a seven song EP and featured some of the more energetic stage tested material. At the time, we had enlisted Mike Nash of Montreal's Golden Mean to help co-produce the record. In the Summer of 1999, ryde finished first place in the annual Clydes Battle of the Bands over 32 other Montreal region bands. It was a great achievement, and it opened the door to some new opportunities. The winter of the new millennium introduced the keyboard styles of Louis Hueppin to the ryde roster. Once again ryde entered the studio to record a three song EP featuring a new style that began the transition into ryde’s reggae-funk-rock rhythms. The band’s energy intensified in 2001 with the acquisition of Omari Newton on the microphone. What began as a guest appearance, ended up as a permanent position as ryde MC extraordinare. His experience working with producer E.P. Bergen of The Bran Van 3000 camp was a valuable contribution to the band as well as kickin' it with Montreal's jazz/hiphop act Kobayashi. His style and influences bring a twist to our live performance that has been praised by all those who've seen and heard it. As a six piece, ryde has played many headlining shows, usually with an energetic two hour set. In April of 2001, we finally sat down in the studio with co-producer Tim Doyle of Montreal's very own Planet Smashers to arrange and record a full length record. The album was recorded in our own studio with some recording at Royal Doyle Studio. We have also used Franco Proieti of Kobayashi as our honourary sax player both live and on record. The latest album's material (2002) has been written and we are in the process of finalizing some of the arrangements. The recording has not yet been scheduled.

Press Reviews
"Imagine, if you will, Limp Bizkit on pot. Oh wait, let me rephrase that. Okay, imagine Rage Against the Machine meets the Jazzmanian Devils, with Bob Marley passing by the window occasionally while working in his garden. Yeah, that's the ticket!"
