Artist History
Energy. In one word, that's Desmo. "The two-year
-old band more appropriately dubs their sound
'premium alternative' and deliver it with pure
rock power" (Randy Harward, City Weekly). Since
the summer of 2000 Desmo's tight sound and
captivating presence have made them one of the
most popular and respected bands in the state.
Desmo has played some of the area's most coveted
shows including SLC's First Night, University of
Utah's Redfest, City Weekly's Showdown to SXSW,
and X-96's Tuesday Tunes at Trolley. Playing
live on 94.9's Z-Morning Zoo, appearing live on
TV, along with consistent live performances have
lent Desmo wide exposure and appeal.
With momentum building into 2002, Desmo recorded
their second EP, Autobiographies. "We knew it was
time for a new record when people were demanding
to have new stuff," said guitarist, Jason. The
new cuts evidenced fresh depth and pop/rock
prowess as heard in the first track Run, a big hit
at live shows. Autobiographies was immediately
termed by City Weekly to be one of Salt Lake
City's best records.
Desmo's shows are pure aural and visual enjoyment.
"Melanie's vocals are as in-your-face as possible
while remaining melodious . . . the ethic is
simple: It's all about achieving a rapport with
the crowd via energetic delivery" (Randy Harward,
City Weekly). Melanie was voted one of Salt
Lake's best female vocalists in the 2002 SLAMMY
Awards. Add to that Jason and Milo's stage antics
and Jaxn's rock hard rhythms and you've got
Desmo's premium alternative rock. Their dynamic
live show earned them a spot in the final five
(out of almost 200 artists) in 94.9's local
American Idol contest. Desmo plans to continue
playing regionally and spreading their music on
the internet in order to gain further exposure in
the industry with their "pure rock power".

Press Reviews
"This is the kind of thing that I could literally listen to all evening long."
(Frankie C - 94.9 KZHT)
"We've had some big bands in here and these guys are just as good if not
better than a lot of these signed artists that we've had come through our studio."
(Kelli Taylor - 94.9 KZHT)
"...Desmo has already shown promise of developing
a strong and loyal fan base in the area."
(Napster.com)
"Spunky suburban pop-funk sporting a serious rock
crunch beneath sugary and moody hooks, all pushed
over the top with singer Melanie Van Orden belting
her #$& off."
(Bill Frost - City Weekly) |
