Artist History
Tom was born in the city of Toronto, and as a youngster he listened to his parent's records of The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel, and various Jazz and Reggae tunes. In the 80's, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Genesis, and Glass Tiger dominated Tom's attention on the radio... but one song in particular stood out the most - Harold Faltermeyer's Axel F. With melodies and bass lines to die for, and those smooooth synth sounds... Tom set to work right away, trying to learn it on the piano. Tom's current musical influences and favourite artists include everything from Enigma, Orbital, and Everything But the Girl to the Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Alanis Morisette, and Kenny G. Tom started piano lessons at the age of 7. Although he loved music, he never really enjoyed practicing or following the teacher's regimented lessons. He was, and still is the kind of musician that plays by ear. Piano lessons aside, it wasn't until he discovered computer-based electronic music several years later that things really began to happen. Tom's venture into composing began with a piece of computer software called "Composer 669", which allowed for notes to be entered in an 8-track pattern-based tracking arrangement. But Tom soon reached the limitations of this system, and graduated to a MIDI-based setup. His bedroom studio now consists of multiple pieces of gear and a software sequencer. In September of 1998, Tom released his first album entitled "Infinity" consisting of new age and melodic ambient music. In 1999 he composed background music for a short documentary series about child daycare in rural communities. Although music occupies much of Tom's time, he is a full time graphic and web site designer. |

Press Reviews
GODSOFMUSIC.COM : If you're a lover of ambient electronic music then you'll be well pleased with 'Mystery to Me'. Put together light but energetic percussion, soothing synth textures, crying flute like sounds and well placed piano runs into one tight bundle and you have this near master piece. Tom Klepl's influences include Enigma and Jean-Michel Jarre, and I can hear aspects of both artists here. This is quality work, right down to the recording and engineering. The mix is magnificently balanced with none of the sounds disrupting the flow or overpowering the listener. Most importantly, the song evolves constantly keeping the listener interested all the way to the very end... most impressive. 'Mystery to Me' will not move you emotionally, but it will enhance your sense of spirituality; it has a great hypnotic / meditative quality to it. Interested?? You should be! Music of this calibre is rare. Do yourself a favour and download the mp3. |
