Artist description
Shri – in India, it means “the secret in the heart of a woman." Formed as a four piece women's band in 1993, the group has grown to eight pieces, having recently acquired a blues harpist, an organ player, rhythm guitarist and male vocalist. Renowned throughout America, Europe and the Far East, “Bad Poet” Lee Lozowick provides the lyrical raw fuel for musical (and literary, look up his new book, “The Blues Alive”) prodigy Ed Flaherty’s dazzling compositions and lead guitar. With impeccable rhythm introduced via Band Manager Tina Zuccarello on bass and classically trained Rakini Chinery on drums, the stage is set for Shri’s mesmerizing blend of Delta and Chicago blues mixed with the seductive sounds of Soul, R&B and a hint of Gospel. Enter the key to Shri’s success. Deborah Auletta, trained and currently employed as a nurse in the deliveries ward of her local hospital, is the focal point of this band. Hers is one of those rare voices that finds its way deep into the body, taking up residence inside the soul and stirring it up, leaving us both touched and gratefully broken-hearted. |
