MARK M. IROSE, has been playing guitar since age five. His father was a bass player in a folk trio act and he grew up in a musical family surrounded by folk, blues and bluegrass. Years of lessons with noted blues guitarist Rory Block instilled in him the fire of Delta blues. Rock-n-Roll bands, years of playing French horn, classical guitar, and college lead him to jazz as a creative and improvisational zenith. Playing and writing jazz polished his already dexterous chops and brought him ever closer to his childhood goal of being versatile enough to sit down and play any music with anyone. Study, and recording (Yusef Lateef's Encounters Atlantic 7 8-2250-2 1991) with Yusef Lateef widened his perspective and served as a major inspiration. The artful science of arranging and composition provided a large canvas on which to apply his musical hand. Melding his various stylistic influences with formal education, years of playing, performing and song writing has created a fresh, versatile voice as both a player and a composer |
