Press Reviews
It truly is a Guitar Extravaganza!!
Anybody who plays (or tries to play) rock or metal guitar should be taking lessons from Jeff Prentice this guy's guitar screams. I listened to all of Jeffs tunes and was blown away by his incredible guitar, vocal and song construction skill. Jeff plays the way I wish I could play.

JEFF PRENTICE
GUITAR EXTRAVAGANZA
The beauty of this self produced c.d. is the fact that it is just that-
a home recorded and produced c.d. that showcases the virtuosity that is Jeff
Prentice.
The insleave states "this is what can happen when you give someone a guitar,
a drum machine, a computer, and a whole lot of free time ." And what Jeff
does with his free time is time well spent.
The first song entitled 'Theme from an imaginary ski movie' is a very
Satriani sounding song that opens up with an in your face guitar harmony that
sets the tone for the rest of the album. Jeff is another precise guitarist
with phenominal chops and absolutely tight as a mosquitos ass harmonies that
are well composed.
The second track "Tango Del Gringo' is a flamenco bit that I swear if I
showed it to you without telling you who it is, you would swear it was new
Yngwie Malmsteen.
Jeff is a self described " old school" guitarist who cites Michael Schenker,
Uli Roth,
Yngwie Malmsteen, Gary Moore, Dave Meniketti, and Joe Satriani as his main
influences and it all shines through in his playing! His wife also does a
phrigian sounding flute solo on the 6th track entitled "Babylon" which is
very Blackmores Rainbow sounding. I heard a lot of Thin Lizzy influence on
this c.d. also.

Let me start off by quoting straight from the CD liner... "This CD was
recorded, produced and pressed to disc entirely at Home!" Jeff plays
everything on this disc (guitars, keys, bass, drum machine). I've been
rather bored with the majority of instrumental guitar recordings I've
heard in the last few years. So, it was quite the pleasant suprise
when I took a chance on Jeff's CD. Jeff is a very well rounded and
competent musician with a brilliant sense of melody. "Theme From An
Imaginary Ski Movie" starts the disc off and is a Joe Satriani meets
Gary Moore fiery number with plenty of ripping and harmony guitar
parts. Next up the Spanish flavored "Tango Del Gringo" shows Jeff's
acoustic side which he blends well with soaring electric lines and
some exotic diminished harmony runs ala Uli Jon Roth. "The Struggle"
is a very upbeat major sounding tune which at about 3:00 turns minor
and is reminiscient of the concept of Rush's "By-Tor & The Snowdog -
III. At The Battle." "Babylon" is an eerily, haunting romp into exotic
scale/mode land that really showcases Jeff's shredding capabilities.
The song also features the only other musician on the disc: Jeff's
wife Leslie on flute. The disc is closed out by Jeff's interpretation
of Seals & Croft's "Summer Breeze." I hear lots of influences
throughout this disc in regards to technique/attitude/feel. Touches of
the agressiveness of Dave Meniketti, the flowing, melodic voice of
Michael Schenker and the guitar harmony sensibilities of Barry
Goudreau/Tom Scholz. But, Jeff makes all of these into his own
identity which is quite appealing to the ear. I can't understand why
he isn't on Shrapnel because I think he is right up there with a lot
of their roster. - Steve
