Artist description
Ikarus is a sound reporter. He draws on voices from every corner of the world. Hymns of joy and cries of anger, prayers and aubades, songs of hope and despair have all been brought to shake your certainties, seize your senses and stir your emotions. From India and Africa to Eastern Europe, from pygmies to nomads, the visions brought to you by Ikarus create an universal language for the world. Based in the heart of Europe, Ikarus tries to combine all sorts of ethnic music with Electronic downtempo tracks, from TripHop to Ambient. Ikarus also includes guitars, didgeridoo and Shakuhachi(Japanese bamboo flute). ****************************************************** Wolf has heard Shakuhachi player Marcus Seifu Grandon on his MP3 internet site and asked him, if he is interested to do a song together. Ikarus and Marcus never have met in real life, but the song (called `Out of this world`) they did via the Internet expresses a new way of working together without boundaries. ****************************************************** Ikarus music - in the manner of so many non-Western civilizations refuses to draw lines between joy and suffering, elation and sadness, just as, from the very beginning, it has banished all barriers of style from its personal grammar. Journeys to India and South America have opened new perspectives in mind and sound.... ****************************************************** A mixture of Ambient, TripHop, Filmmusic, Pop with World influences.. Soundscapes from another world with strong ethnic roots. ************************ Do you need music for your next film or TV Spot? WeŽll do it! ****************************************************** |

Artist History
Ikarus a.k.a. Wolfgang Stindl started to work on the Ikarus project back in 1995, after years of studying music, making first experiences in performing & producing. Inspired by vast journeys and all sorts of ethnic music, Ikarus started to combine Electronic Chill Out tracks with sounds & vocals from all over the planet.
With the assistance of MP3.com in 1999, Ikarus got the chance to reach a wider audience, work together with musicians over the internet and to sell his CdŽs worldwide.
Encouraged by the incredible resonance from listeners and excellent chart positions on MP3.com, Ikarus released his official debut album titled "Ikarus-Touch the sun" on Sonic Images Records/Earthtone Records in january 2001, after being discovered by the A&R manager of Sonic Images Records on MP3.com.
Meanwhile ten compilations from different record companies and with different artists e.g. Moby, Faithless, Dead can Dance, Govinda, Celtic Spirit, Miriam Stockley, Natacha Atlas and others are available.
On the upcoming movie "The Matrix-Revisited" starring Keanu Reeves by Warner Bros, Ikarus is part of the soundtrack.
MTV-Undiscovered, Yahoo, Amazon.com, Musiceditor.com and others featured Ikarus songs during the last year.
Upcoming releases include "Scousa Lounge" (Hypnotic Records/EMI) and "Besame-chillin`time" (Universal) compilations.
Since 01. October 2001 Ikarus brandnew album "The Angkor Sessions" is out and available on www.mp3.com/ikarus !!!

Press Reviews
Ikarus creates well-produced, refined music. the sort of music that makes it easy to imagine forests and waterfalls. in fact, it fits perfectly into the world music genre usually associated with that kind of imagery. smooth sounds and effects and a laid back groove define these songs and make them a treat for world fans while mixing in enough drums for the casual electronic listener. beautiful. "basement", in its sonic indian version, brings this mix to light, blending a trip hop beat with sweeping backgrounds and wailing vocals as sung by an old indian. from the subtle delay on the opening chords to the sample - cd quality of the breakbeat, the song sounds professionally produced. a beautiful vibrating organ and reverberating xylophone melody provide the icing to a solid foundation of deep bass and smaller backing sweeps. the combination of this type of bass and percussive melody always remind me of angelo badalamenti, and ikarus holds up well even to this demanding comparison. a more involved vocal part is the mainstay of in my deepest dreams, the voice this time belonging to a middle eastern woman. the simple and deep bassline is magnificent in this track and lends the song depth in contrast to the higher sounding pads and hihats and cymbals. a combination of congas accompany the slower drum beat and lead into the high paced melody of extremely well programmed eastern percussive sounds. touched the sun is perhaps more dependent on its vocal sample than the previous two songs, so it is all the more impressive that this one sample, layered in a chorus effect, can carry the whole tune. that's not to say the bass, drums and melody are anything less than impressive, let alone the marvelous swelling pads they all rest on. everything about this music is flawless and professional. A must download for all who like world music or who just want to hear what well produced music sounds like. all three songs go directly to the raw42 hall of fame. (www.raw42.com) ****************************************************** Impressive world fusion from Austria. Ikarus flies close to many world traditions without seeing his compositions go down in flames: you'll hear didjeridoo, bagpipes, Bulgarian singers, and Japanese shakuhachi, as well as some chanting -- all set to chilled-out trip hop beats. (Reviewed by Sarah B.-Listen.com) ****************************************************** Featured Filmmusic song on MP3.com: Paramatma-Expressive!!! Nr.19 in the 1999 TOP 20 Classical songs. ****************************************************** Featured Trip-Hop song on Mp3.com: Touched the sun - Great up-tempo track with great vocal lines!!!! ****************************************************** Ikarus songs have made it into the Top 20 of their genres - one Nr.1 in Ambient Electronic, one Nr.1 in TripHop and one Nr.2 in Filmmusic! ****************************************************** My best chart ranking (all genres) was Nr.9 from over 500.000 songs!! ****************************************************** A big thank you to all my fans!!! ************************************************* Review by Woodworm 28.10.99 (Shine on): ..People, if youŽre looking for a beautiful piece of music full of worldly sounds and excellent melodies, check this one out ****************************************************** Fanmails:I listened to some of your tracks.
