Artist History
RCStrange was born in Dublin, sometime between the end of the Summer of Love and the start of the Winter of Discontent. In fact, records confirming his exact date of birth are unreliable, partly because he was the ninth of seventeen children, partly because his birth-mother once worked as a copy editor for Janis Joplin, but more importantly because he refused to conform to the tyranny of the time-police from a very early age. RC made his first public appearance with a guitar at one of Ireland’s renowned Punt-Savers; it took three staff members and several minutes to get it back. This was, perhaps, the pivotal period in his life. His father decided, with his son facing criminal charges and a general decline of a family business producing pre-rolled string, to move to Southern England. It was here that RC perfected his Northern accent and learned how to hold the guitar properly, but bad timing continued to hinder his progress. A brief spell with Bournemouth notaries ‘God’s Waiting Room’ was followed several years later by his critically unacclaimed ‘Dorset Sucks’ conceptual media tour. Remembering his father’s reluctance to get with it in the string industry, RC decided to save up and buy a computer. After long days selling dinghies to men in strange shirts, RC would return to his sparsely furnished garret, lit only by a single patchouli jostick recently sent by his mother. That perverse circular regularity did not escape him and although his nights were often filled with dreams of Byronic intensity, and though he stopped washing and eating, his lyrics gradually improved. And then he did buy a computer. And later, some MIDI leads. |
