Artist History
I was born on January 1st, 1977 in Mebane, NC. My first guitar was a Sears Silvertone that I found in my Dad's basement while snooping around where I wasn't supposed to be. It was missing 2 strings, but I didn't know the difference. For my 12th birthday, my parents got the guitar and a little rock box we called an amp, fixed and paid for me to take guitar lessons. My first concept of distortion was cranking my volume knob past the point of overdrive until the little 5 inch cone contained in that rock box, just couldn't take it anymore. Sweet Child O' Mine could be heard on my street whenever my window was open. Of course, the version that I was playing sucked. Eventually, I began messing with various cheap recording equipment and coming up with different ways to make new sounds come out of my guitar. By the age of 16, my biggest influences were musicians with high standards of instrumentation. I won't list them all, but the main ones, from whom I've gained the most knowledge, are Joe Satriani , Steve Vai, Steve Morse, Eric Johnson, and Nate Smith. Nate is a local musician that opened my eyes up to the world of recording my creations...... by myself. He's a phenomenal guitarist/vocalist/pianist/percussionist/bassist/all around musician with an ear that just won't quit. He showed me how he had pieced together many compositions by playing all of the instruments. That was it for me. The image that I had locked myself into of being just a guitarist was broken. By the age of 18, I was in a locally rising band name MASADA. Through MASADA, I learned all of the do's and don'ts of leading/playing with a band. We released a CD, but only 1000 copies were made. Shine on Me, a song on MASADA's album that I wrote the music for when I was 14, hit number 2 on the charts on a local radio station in Raleigh. That helped to open many doors for us. We played in various local festivals, and traveled quite a bit. Those were probably the best times of my life.... (so far). Anyway... That's all over now... and I wouldn't trade the experience that I gained for the world. My goals to be a full time musician are now more solid than ever. It is all truly a gift to be able to know that every day, I can express what I have been given... with the beautiful sounds of those gifts. I'll never let the passion die. lee |
