Press Reviews
1) Time and a Word Magazine: ICECAKE ...an ambient experience (Supple). The debut CD from Long Island-based Icecake is a truly unusual and experimental sound project. Written and performed by R. Kaminek, the subtle and abstract sound sculptures are well-thought out on bass, guitar, effects and samples. The overall effect is quite entrancing and is a perfect nocturnal spin for adventurous New Age fans seeking something just a little bit out of the ordinary. With it's celestial, ambient groove, this 7-track 27 minute first effort foreshadows bigger and better future projects from Icecake................................................................................... 2) Long Island Voice: Rob Kaminek's Icecake is a solo effort in which melodic bass lines, spacy samples and light guitar with weird effects evolve into fully expressed mellow soundscapes. This disc highlights Kaminek's exceptional musical ability and sense of melody. "That Train is So Spacy" jumps out with a thumping bass line which becomes layered, continuously reinventing itself. Ray-gun effects may jump out, only to blend with another swirling mass. The music of Icecake can conjure up many images and have you reflecting deeply. Just put on ...an ambient experience, close your eyes and enjoy............................................................... |
