Artist History
Floyd's been around the alternative jazz, ska, reggae scene for thirty years- but mostly in London and Europe. Only recently has he moved to New York. He made his mark in England with Ska band Potato 5, and then licensed original works to EMI Music Library, where his music continues to be placed in films and television. He plays with Jamaican musicians, for the most part, especially the drum section, recording in Jamaica. "The rhythm has got to be Jamaican". But he readily collaborates with talent from around the globe. |

Press Reviews
THE BEAT by Chuck Foster, 2001 Opening with a laid-back homage to roots daughters and transversing themes from "Money Pressure" to "Zydeco Suzie", Floyd Lloyd offers a songwriter's spectrum on ALCHEMY. With musical backing from the likes of ernest Ranglin, Mikey Chung, Pam Hall, and Vin Gordon, LLoyd eschews the digital for a warm and comfortable studio sound. Alchemy ropes in the thoughtful ("Eight Rivers") and thematic ("Rocksteady Party") with the lighter end of the spectrum covered by cuts like "Compatible Friends" and "Foxy Foxy" and some soaring pop structures such as "Love Knows" and "Make Me The Wish." |
