Artist History
Ernest Ranglin is beyond doubt one of Jamaica's best and brightest stars. He was instrumental in creating the shuffle rhythm which exaggerated the 'jump beat' heard on New Orleans' R&B records of the Fifties that became known as Ska. In turn, Ska became the foundation of Jamaican popular music, leading to rock steady, reggae, ragga and all the musical innovations the island has brought into the global mainstream. From Millie Small, to Bob Marley, Monty Alexander, to Floyd Lloyd, Ranglin has collaborated with Jamaica's most innovative. |

Press Reviews
In keeping with Ranglin's earlier works, E.B.@ Noon is an album of songs; a collection of melodies in guitar language, and their intrinsic beauty is in the way the master interprets them. Most of the tracks on this album are collaborations and Ranglin is in the main interpreting one of the most prolific of Jamaica's new breed of songwriters: the distinctive talents of Floyd Lloyd. Ranglin is at the stage where he is not capable of performing less than brilliant and listeners will be assured that this album fits neatly into several types of collections, whether Jazz, Caribbean music, Reggae, or simply easy listening. Like me, you're probably just mad about the guitar and will place E.B @ Noon on the top shelf among your guitar albums. Al Crosdale, London/ September 30, 1999 |
