Artist History
David Shew has lived in the Atlanta area most of his life. His musical training began with the trombone, which he played for nine years. Although abandoning it later for the guitar (his main instrument), his love for low brass continued. While in college he became interested in electronic synthesis and purchased an old Arp Odyssey analog synthesizer. He continued to build his keyboard collection through the years and began experimenting with ways to combine electronic brass and other orchestral textures with his guitar playing, while maintaining a melodic, compositional style. His debut CD, THE GATHERING, is a realization of this combination. Recorded at Davenhil, his personal studio, THE GATHERING consists of 8 songs. Rich in imagery, melody, and percu ssive multi-layering, the songs take the listener on a musical journey that reflects David's diverse influences, ranging from Santana to Soft Machine to Claude Debussy. Whether it's the hypnotic 'Take Me With You,' or the lamenting 'Oklahoma City,' or the serene pulse of the title cut 'The Gathering,' David showcases his ability to draw the listener into his world. A world full of images, textures, and emotions. |
