Artist History
Sketching Venus was set up n the mid 1990s as a theoretical outlet for Mat Smith's more experimental music works. The first SV album ('svUTLD01abm') was recorded in early 2000 and was released via Nominal Musics in January 2001. On the same day that this album was released, Smith also released the split mini album 'Gerausch Fruh', which comprised early electronic works and improvisations. Later in 2001, Sketching Venus also released 'Kleine Stucke #1 - The Infiltration Of Silent Gestures', another mini album comprising early SV pieces in addition to several new tracks, and 'Music For Turf'. 'Music For Turf' was created for use in an art exhibition held in Luton in 2001, but was not used in the actual event. The album comprises field recordings of a bank's security system being tested, which was then modified and manipulated live at Nominal Studios. |
