Artist History
What hasn't been said about Ritchie Pickett? What can be said about Ritchie Pickett? Pound for pound he is one of New Zealand's most prolific songwriters as well as one of its most over-the-top entertainers. From his beginnings in rock and roll bands in the 1970s Pickett ventured into New Zealand's first prog heavy metal band Think, which released an album on Atlantic. In the 1980s he discovered the country music of Hank Williams and formed the legendary Ritchie Pickett & The Inlaws. Their 1984 release Gone For Water was a defining moment in New Zealand country music, bristling with Pickett originals and a couple of Hank covers. Many tours later came Pickett's overdue solo debut All Strung Out In A Bunch, confirming Pickett's status as one of New Zealand's most gifted songwriters. His songs have been recorded by the likes of Larry Morris, Midge Marsden and Glen Moffatt |
