Artist description
The Pseudo Sound Project was founded by artist/producer Kristian Thomas during his final year at the South Australian School of Art in 2000, in answer to the absence of support and understanding for his experiments with moving imagery, 'live' computer generated electronic sounds, and installations based on sacred geometry. He intended to start an organization that would enable, promote and support new media artists and their conceptual directions, in order to fill the void of artistic recognition for new media he found within SASA and other fine art institutions in SA.
The first PSP event involved only six artists, who performed to a handful of people in a building on Hindley Street, which Kristian had hired and transformed into an audio/visual installation. Since then there have been four more PSP events at venues around Adelaide, now involving over 40 artists and attracting crowds of over 500 people. PSP is an ongoing process of networking, communication, constant exchange and support amongst, and for, local, interstate and international young, new media artists, which culminates twice annually in a PSP event.
At present a shop space in Adelaide has been acquired for the sale and promotion of new works, which will open to coincide with PSP 006, at 7pm March 8th 2002. This space will also provide a performance and exhibition venue throughout the years to come, allowing the work of the ever increasing number of PSP artists to become more readily accessible.
