    Artist History
With the introduction of "The Beatles" in 1964 on the Ed Sullivan Show this nine year old, as many other millions of Americans of all ages, fell in love with Rock & Roll. Ladies and Gentleman Ed Sullivan introduces: "The Beatles". I will always remember the text that flashed across the TV screen when they showed John Lennon," Sorry Girls John's Married". Although Elvis Presley, The Big Bopper, Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran and others were already well known and carving out their careers, they hadn't caught the attention to their music as "The Boys" had. My Mom would take us into Manhattan during Christmas and other holidays. I will never forget a blind man standing in front of a store with his acoustic guitar strapped to his back. The guitar had a cup attached in the hole, for people to put money into. It was if I was frozen, standing there listening to him. The music struck me; I was amazed at the sound I was hearing as he played. I was living in Flushing, NY during this time. On one Saturday afternoon while visiting at my grand parents home, my older cousins from Brooklyn who were also there, asked me to keep an eye on the TV while they played outside. They asked me to call them in when "The Dave Clark Five" were introduced on "Ed Sullivan". I remember running to the door and yelling to my cousins to come in as the band took the stage. What an exciting time it was, not only with "The British Invasion" but for American bands as well, Rock and Roll opened a whole new world for all of us at that time. Rock and Roll had a major impact on our culture and changed the world in which we live. With "The Rolling Stones", "The Doors"," Janis Joplin", "Jimi Hendrix" and so many more, I too wanted to play in a group. In 1965 my family moved into East Islip, NY in Suffolk County, Long Island. Two years later I begged for a guitar and after proving to them with good grades on my report card, they bought me one. I took lessons for a year at age 13, but I couldn't follow what the instructor wanted, I wanted to play rock not scales. My instructor gave me an ultimatum, either practice what he told me to or he wouldn't be coming back. That was it, he never came back and I started writing my own songs. I had an epiphany to follow my dream and to date I haven't given up yet. During the High School years at East Islip High School I formed a band called "Tazmania". We played Santana, The Who, Led Zeppelin, Creedence Clearwater, The Beatles, Derek and The Dominos, Cream, Grateful Dead, Buffalo Springfield, Crosby Stills Nash & Young etc. Our band played at High School events, Saint Mary's dances and many other places. We would take jobs from anyone who would hire us. It was apparent after bouncing back and forth with many bands that I decided to go it alone. During the early 70's I would meet with people in the business. I would bring my guitar to Manhattan to a place called Chapel Workshop. I would play the songs I had written to a gentleman by the name of Landy McNeal. He and his colleagues would listen and then they would have me listen to other artists they had been considering for contract. After several visits, Landy McNeil left Chapel and became President of H&L Records in New Jersey. I would get in my car and drive to N.J. where he would show me all the wonderful toys he had at his disposal. He showed me all around the 64 track-recording studio where he would explain to me, what it would take to write a great song, He said, "I would need more than just the meat and potato's." The telephone would ring and he would talk to this artist and that artist and explain how great they were and say "thank you for coming, and to please stay in touch. I have a cousin who did accounting for the "Warner Brothers" but couldn't help me because they didn't owe him a favor. I met with a gentleman who wrote "jingles" and had his own studio but wouldn't record me. I have played in clubs, with bands and as a soloist. In the 70's I would meet with so many people in the music business, I met Gregg Allman, Dickey Betts, Jackson Browne, Doug Grey, and Jack Cassidy but I was too afraid to ask them for help, fearing they would think that I was just another groupie. I would travel from pub to pub on Long Island. I would play guitar harmonica and sing many of the songs from other artists at the time plus squeeze in a few originals. I spent years trying to write stronger and compose better music. I lived for a time in Florida and tried contacting Record Labels and making appointments. Nothing but disappointments was apparent in this business. I moved to Santa Cruz California in 1978 and continued contacting Radio Stations, Record Labels and musicians. I played in clubs there and met a lot of people in the industry. In 1979 I hired Steve Loveless from Twilight Studios. He helped me put together the "Workin' For A Livin'" album on which I spent approximately $5000.00. In 1979 I worked as a nurse's aide in nursing homes plus also worked construction jobs laying carpet and tile, which paid $5.50 an hour. I would also play on the streets of Santa Cruz California in their famous Pacific Garden Mall. As "Workin' for a Livin'" became a reality the next step was to get it to the public. I did all my own legwork because of the "lack of funds". I couldn't afford an agent so I personally drove to Radio stations with the hope of airplay. I left my record on consignment in many Record Stores in the northern California area. New Wave just hit the streets and the middle of the road acoustic music I was playing, was no longer what the public wanted to hear. They were ready for something new. I played at the Keystone in Palo Alto California in front of about 600 people. That show was broadcast live on KFAT Radio. I sat down for 3 Radio interviews where I was invited as their guest at KLRB in Carmel California. I sent out tapes and records to Radio and Record labels. I spent a small fortune from Oregon to Los Angeles. I moved back to New York in 1980 and played with a couple more bands. I recorded some progressive rock music, about 5 songs with one band and sang for a musician who was interested to have me join him on his new album. I recorded one song and then decided to go back to college. After taking Broadcast Telecommunications, I switched my emphasis to computers. After college I became a salesman for electronic companies selling Stereo's TV's VCR's etc. I worked for 3 major companies in that business but left in 1987 to start a new career in computers. After working for several computer companies from 1987-1993 I decided to start my own company in 1994. ByDesign Computer Systems, Inc. has been in business since then. In 1999 I reproduced the "Workin' For A Livin'" album to CD. During all those years I had a slew of songs that I had written, but needed to get them recorded. I bartered with a customer for a 4 track Tascam cassette recorder. I produced the "I'm a Man" album and the "To the Sea Album" from that cassette recorder. I realized how many songs were actually lost because I couldn't remember how to play them, but was grateful to finally get the songs I did remember on tape. "Tough Love" was my first attempt to record digitally. Originally thought to be only demonstration albums they have now been up for sale along with all my other albums. Someday I hope to re-record them into full production songs with other musicians, until then the saga continues...
