Artist History
For a while, it seemed that my aspirations of being a performing songwriter were diminishing. Not so anymore. This year brought on a marked renaissance in playing and writing for me. It actually started last year when I embarked on my first CD project. I blew the dust off some older material, reworked some of it, and was compelled to write some new material. The result was a 10-song catalog of all original music; some air -play in Boston, an invitation to perform in the prestigious Kerrville Folk Festival, and some recent opportunities to play at some local Houston venues that accommodate only serious and thoughtful artists. Prior to all this, I had been relegated to playing cover songs in bars to relatively inattentive crowds. I can't tell you how rewarding it is for me to play to listeners. The purpose of my music has always been to communicate the simple pleasures that I have found in the places I have lived and the people I have known. I have had this love affair with folk-style music since I began listening to the radio as a child. Back then, I was in awe of the crafty lyrics of James Taylor, Don McClean, Carly Simon, and Jim Croce. I had also been particularly been drawn to the outright sincerity and simplicity of John Denver. The attention I paid to all of them has manifested itself in the way I approach writing, that is, with a certain degree of simplicity and honesty.Peace to you.Derek Scott Aramburu |
