Artist History
Finally!
The demo is done and people like it. we like it most days but we can't wait to record a full length
project.
Paul's got some great songs. I played with him for three years in the Beatifics and never knew he had
the
songs and that real rock voice (hell, I didn't even know he played guitar). I guess I should have paid
more
attention to the Pigeonholes back in the day.
After the two of us split from the Beatifics (artistic differences, right?) and had a year off to
concentrate
on marginal day jobs, we knew we had to rock again. I knew I could play guitar, but I had to finish
up the
songs I had been carrying around for a few years. So in a flurry of pen strokes we had a set but no
band.
We were jamming with our good friend Andrew on drums and a few different bass players when
Andrew
moved to LA and re-formed Peachfuzz (the Peachfuzz Reformation Act of 1999). Good thing our old
friend
Heath was in town. We had known him from various Sioux Falls bands like violet and the Mark
Romanowski
Explosion. Who'd have thought that the day he came to jam with us he would bring with him our new
drummer?
Nate was a pal of Heath's from Sioux Falls who had been in 12 1/2 Charlies. He was living in
Minneapolis
providing rock solid drumming to the sound (and mental anguish to the members) of Hi-Test. We
practiced
for a few hours and played at a party that night. We really would have rocked the house if the cops
hadn't
shown up halfway through our second song.
Here we are a year later with a $500 demo cd, a dozen missed opportunities, and actually a few
shows
booked this summer. If most small businesses go bust within a year, this smallest of ventures is a
tenacious one.
Without further adieu I present for your approval four new tunes from Betty Drake.
Sincerely,
Andy voc and gtr
