Artist History
Brothers Falloon are an acoustic guitar/vocal duet, formed in 1999. Playing theLondon and St Albans acoustic scene, regular slots at the 12 Bar Club haveincluded nights with Nigel Kennedy/Kaleb Clarke, Gywn Ashton and Texan CountryBlues ace Steve James. Our music is a mixture of soulful alternative country, duband acoustic pop. We have been compared to Crowded House, Neil Young, Simon& Garfunkel, Tom Waits and America. Matt Falloon, 24, is just back from Guyana, where he was working on theGeorgetown crimebeat at Stabroek News. He provides lead vocals and somebacking and (acoustic) guitar. Matt formerly played with Steve Spong (ofBrighton-based band Brownstone) in another acoustic duo, Skirtcoast. Sincethen, Matt played many gigs solo before adding Pete as part of the act. He iscomposer/guitarist for Dirty Money [dub/funk/d'n'b/scratch crossover] who kickedup a storm last year with the release of their debut e.p. and support slots withJTQ, Boy George, Dandy Warhols, Snow Patrol and Snow Boy across London andthe south east. Matt also plays with hammond-driven blues-rock band HolySmoke. Influences: Stevie Wonder, Bob Dylan, Love, Don McLean.... Pete Falloon, 27 plays acoustic guitar and sings backing. Pete is the melodic leadguitar man, adding lead and backing vocals where necessary. Pete was originallya classically trained trumpeter, and has played horns with reggae meister Ian K.Dell and Beatsroute, supporting Brand New Heavies and JTQ among others. Petealso recorded with jazz-funk outfit Dr Tilt. Pete joined Matt in 1999, and isworking on forming an original band with Daniel Hampshire (guitar: Reading-basedbands), Pietro Cariga (bass: Sardinian festival bands), and Richard Hart (drums:SoulIISoul and Heaven 17). Influences: Neil Young, Fleetwood Mac, Gil Scott Heron, REM, Cream, Byrds... Now if that's not enough for you. Brothers Falloon have just released their debute.p. 'river of love' on their own label Allgood Records. It's groovy, heartfelt, slickand breezy. From country to dub to west coast harmonies and 3 minute classics- the Brothers Falloon are one of the nation's best kept secrets. |

Press Reviews
"They wowed us with an excellent set of skilled playing and top songs - twovoices, two guitars and lotsa magic..." www.lemonrock.com "Fine acoustic music" www.onlinetvuk.com"Brothers Falloon combine subtle vocals with a newer style of blues music"www.onlinetvuk.com--------------River of Love EP Review, St Albans Observer, 16/03/2001 Original sound from band of brothers MUSIC: Sam Bartlett enjoyed the new EP by St Albans-basedFalloon Brothers After bedroom wallpaper and someone to share it with, music taste could be oneof the most personal things on the planet (and no, this isn't a request for letterson the subject). Stuff that sets my teeth on edge can be another's baby soother, one man's AlGreen is someone else's Bonnie Tyler. But back to the plot, and a surprise musical package courtesy of a greenhousegas scientist from Rothamsted, and his younger brother, just back from coveringthe Georgetown crimebeat for a Guyanan newspaper. The Brothers Falloon are scientist Pete, 27, and journalist Matt, 24, who formedtheir vocal-acoustic duo in 1999, and cite influences as eclectic as Peter Green'sFleetwood Mac, Simon and Garfunkel, Tom Waits, Bob Marley, and "any crustyold records you can find in the boot fairs on the Herts showground". Pete adds: "I prefer Motown pop to pop in the charts because there's somethinga bit rough about it. "If you play on your own or as a duo, it's a lot barer and you are very exposed, and I feel that helps, it's more direct." The pair have become regular players on the gig circuit in London and St Albans, and have just released their debut EP, River of Love, on their own label, AllgoodRecords, which they describe as ranging "....from dub to west coast harmoniesand three minute classics". The songs are all their own, with lyrics mostly penned by Matt, and they seem todeal with deceptively simple fears and hopes and the every day ups and downsof family relationships. Their music could also curiously appeal to fans of Romantic poetry after a naturalimagery fix, if they can take it syphoned through a dirty Motown filter. Pete says: "Because we are brothers we don't get on sometimes, but our musicis similar and we know what the other one wants to do. "We're at the stage where we want to keep doing gigs and see where we go." To me, the EP sounded like Crowded House and Neil Young, only sparser, with adub backbeat, and on the last (my favourite) track, Pete's vocal came acrosswith that smoke-filled huskiness of a Janis Joplin, half-cut but right on thebutton. In other words, I liked it, and am sure it would work even better live and"unplugged", if that doesn't drag up misleading images of ageing rockers trying tofind a new outlet for their old tunes. Just for reference, most of the music I like is by people long-dead, usually afterglugging turpentine in some ramshackle juke joint, but maybe that's coincidentalto their music. Pete says they recorded the whole EP in four days and were running out ofstudio time when it came to the last track, One Last Time, and the sound is oneof near-exhaustion. He adds: "It was ridiculously late and Bob the engineer was saying we should gohome, but I just sang it. "Listening to it the next day, someone said I sounded like an old smack addict, and I thought it sounded great." This raw vocal quality makes their best stuff, especially when added to simpleemotional lyrics that come across as genuinely heartfelt. It sounds real. The Brothers Falloon play their next gig at The Horn, in St Albans' Victoria Street, this Sunday.
