Artist History
We Ragazzi buzzed into Chicago's crowded indie-rock territory in late 1997, spicing up the scene with their brash mix of bluesy garage rock, and sassy new wave. Soon after their formation, members Anthony Rolando (guitar, vocals), Colleen Burke (Farfisa), and Alianna Kalaba (drums), self-released a single in the spring of 1998 and began playing Chicago and the surrounding Great Lakes area. Their growing reputation as an energetic live act spread by word of mouth, and eventually led to their signing with Chicago's indie My Pal God record label who featured their song "In December" on The My Pal God Holiday Record compilation. We Ragazzi's first CD, Suicide Sound System was released in the spring of 1999. By the end of the summer, the band took to the road, touring throughout the Midwest and east coast. ~ Dale Nicholls, All Music Guide

Press Reviews
We Ragazzi, "Suicide Sound System"by Brian SokelWe Ragazzi check in with a fair amount of attitude and creep on Suicide Sound System. I mean serious creep. Eye liner, Goth class, and raw impersonal tunes hit you head on. We Ragazzi are a trio hailing from the Windy City, and from all accounts, they're retro-fitted space addicts that fuck. That seems like a fair assessment to me. With Anthony Rolando's Jagger-esque wails serenading you from this disc you can almost imagine him creeping on the floor up to your bedside. He's sneaking up armed only with a drumset that pounds flat and dull, a Farfisa that fuzzes, and a guitar that twangs like nobody's business. We Ragazzi goes low fi and it's charming as hell. Equal parts late 60's rock fair and early 80's new wave, it's low class, almost sleaze, with serious rewards. Rolando even promises you that he's "...moving his pelvis to new places." You're gonna let him, too. After hearing this record, how could you possibly not? -Brian Sokel www.rocket-fuel.com |
