Artist History
Originally drawn into country music during the punk and new-wave movements circa 1977, Waylon Willie (a.k.a. B. Mathis - yes, the "Waylon Willie" name was adapted from an obvious source) pictured a "new" country music based on the foundations of legends like Hank Williams and Jimmie Rogers, but infused with bittersweet humor and the musical innovations normally attributed to punk and new-wave music. The result was what Waylon jokingly called "country-punk-rock", but what parallels modern alt-country or progressive country, albeit with a light-hearted sense of humor. Through the years, Waylon has hiatused and reformed the band many a time, taking the odd job, and playing the odd gig, but always perpetuating the band with the same vision. Once again, Waylon & The Boys are performing, recording, and making country music sometimes humorous, sometimes pointed, sometimes pushing the boundaries, but always enjoyable. |
