Artist History
January 1st 2000The Disco Bomber is born illegitimately under a wandering star. January - February 2000A bountiful clutch of material is conceived, incubated and soon hatched. The framework of the masterplan is fashioned and installed. March 2000The Disco Bomber begins electrified musical interaction in North London, England, where operations are based for the immediate future. April - May 2000Said material reaches a healthy fledgling stage ahead of schedule, and a test flight is planned for mid-summer. June 2000A bomb squad cell is opened in New York, comprised of Unamerican comrades eager to nurture operations Stateside. July 2000The Disco Bomber goes overground for the first time, staging a preview performance in The Vortex, N16, before an invited audience of friends and enemies August - September 2000With Phase One successfully fulfilled, behind-the-scenes activities are stepped up a gear. All energies are focussed on Phase Two, and its primary objectives:-1) 'Hackneyed Psalms', the debut e.p.2) The mid-winter Cluster-Bomb Showcases. For the former, three gems are plucked from the mine of material, deals are cut and studio time is arranged for their recording - inkeeping with the audacious plan of a debut release before the 1st anniversary of musical interaction. For the latter, a rough rehearsal recording is distributed selectively among a handful of promoters, is enthusiastically received and venues are chosen for a run of four virginal performances across North London. October 2000Preparations for both objectives begin in anger. November 30th, 2000The Disco Bomber surfaces for real on the public stage. The Hope and Anchor in Islington, N1, plays hostess to a triumphant, adrenalin-fuelled performance before an enthusiastic, packed house. December 2000All three songs - 'Karaoke', 'Sheerdrophangingon' and 'The Darling of the Underclass' - are recorded over a whirlwind three days at a secret urban studio.A chaotic performance at the HQ Club in Camden, NW1, alongside an horrific '80's soft-pop combo, results in the Bomber stealing the show (and selective 'superfluous' equipment).Incoming Bomber Andrea is publicly baptised on the same stage.More recordings are drip-fed to selected promoters, and future bookings are secured for a Spring assault. Finally, The Disco Bomber goes underground to embellish and strengthen its material arsenal, while the outside world acquiesces to an ugly festival of consumerism known as Christmas. Thus the year closes on a high of frenetic inspiration......... January 2001The Disco Bomber hits the new year burning, with a power surge of activity on all fronts. Rehearsals recommence during the first days of the year, with preparations for impending shows injected with young blood in the form of fresh material gunning for the spotlight. On the 9th, the third performance of the Cluster-Bomb showcases is staged at the Bull and Gate, NW5, and immediately becomes an epoch for all involved - a newfound, celebratory energy unites the bomb squad and its allies. 'Hackneyed Psalms' manoeuvres continue unabated, and are equally cursed and blessed - elementary mixing sessions are aborted on account of 'missing' files but existing versions are deemed sufficiently representative and the show goes on; behind-the-scenes preparations progress on schedule, with mastering, pressing and design all secured; and in N.Y. the Unamerican cell organises a network of empathetic, independent radio stations and retailers primed for the Disco Bomber's release. On the 19th, the fourth and final cluster-bombing is undertaken at The Verge, NW5, where the squad temporarily retreats from the public stage on a natural high; after the show a management contract is rejected on the spot on account of the presence of a Limp Bizkit t-shirt. February 2001 Underground once more, to focus energies on 'Hackneyed Psalms' - preparations are all but completed, distribution deals are considered and promos begin circulating on 03/02/01.Within days, the e.p. will hit the outlets across the capital and beyond............ |
