Press Reviews
The band, like a voracious pit, swallow all musical forms in their path, resulting in an interesting musical mongrel with a genetic lineage to funk, tribal rhythm, jazz, gospel, soul, rock, retro-groove, croon and, well, you get the picture." (Mail & Guardian, 9 November 2000)Swiftlove with Boo!: "Moderated Craziness" On Friday 2 March, Swiftlove played with South Africa's most popular rock band Boo! at the hottest live music venue in Durban, BarGo. According to Sunday Tribune SM reporter, Nashen Moodley, the gig was an impressive one: "It should be sufficient to say that Swiftlove is the most exciting band to come out of Durban in a long time. The band plays a crazy mix of funk and soul, with elements of reggae, African rhythms, Latin vibes and rock thrown in for a good measure.[..] The band has a wonderfully energising, and endearingly kitsch, stage presence. Dax Martin is a tremendous vocalist. The rest of the band provide sound backing for his superb vocals. [..] If their performance in Bargo is anything to go by, then Swiftlove's new cd is going to be an extremely impressive release." (SM Magazine, Sunday 11 March). |
