Artist description
An experimental effort at heart, Kilt has performed nearly every different style of music in their long and storied career. Ska, punk, reggae, funk, classic rock, bluegrass.... all have fallen before the special "K". More so for their originals, though, Kilt is known for their bizarre and creative covers of existing songs. Be it an overly reggae version of Operation Ivy's "Healthy Body" or a bizarre mixture of the techno "Mortal Kombat" theme and Rancid's "Roots Radicals, nothing's out of order for Kilt. |

Artist History
Founded in 1995 with original members Joe Winchester (guitar), Tom Winchester (drums) and Tim Gaber (guitar) as an experimental / jam session experiment. Before long, Gaber bowed out, Brad Nelson took over on the drums and Tom moved his interests to bass. This lineup started playing dates as a cover band until an accident forced Tom off the stage for an extended period. Sean Lamberger stepped in to fill his shoes on a temporary basis, but soon became a permanent. Not long after, the finalized trio started work on original material. Touring regularly, Kilt recorded their first album, "License to Kilt" in a Noblesville High School recording studio over the course of three days. With touring continuing, the three decided to record for a live album, which was released under the not-so-inventive title of "License to Kilt - Live" only a few months after the studio release. By late 1997, the group was torn apart and its members went their separate ways. Joe was off to Sarasota Florida, Sean to northeastern Indiana and Brad departed for West Indy. Nine months later, the three gathered once again in what would become an annual reunion show in Sarasota. The old trio picked up where they left off, unveiling several new and remodeled covers and originals. The next year, Kilt stunned audiences by creating a new original track, featuring former drummer and bassist Tom Winchester on guest vocals. Fragments of this performance, including the new original, were captured and burned to a special greatest hits album, "K". Not long after their third annual reunion performance, Brad decided to leave the band to pursue a career in lounge singing. Joe and Sean continued in his stead, performing as "Kilt" with original drummer Tom Winchester reprising his role behind the set. |
