Artist History
Sam, owner of the world's vastest record collection, and Dave, permanently frustrated band veteran, and guitarist with mp3.com-based project Evilfish, have various drunken conversations over a period of several years about how they really should get round to forming a band. You know, a proper one who actually play gigs and make records and stuff. To their surprise, when they finally got their act together to do so, some people actually answered Sam's cryptic ad for people into "a kind of dub krautrock electronica post rock sort of thing". Step forwards prodigious producer, programmer and pretty damn good guitar player James, and vocalist and stagediving enthusiast Matt. Their respective claims to fame being that PJ Harvey once turned up at one of James' gigs in his native Dorset, and Matt has been and still is in more bands with more ridiculous names than anyone ever (Skank Tank and Fleshchild being my favourites), instantly clinched the deal. They were in.Red Shift was complete and ready for world domination...
They hit the road with just a malfuctioning CD player for protection and toughened up their gig muscles by playing every wedding, party, bar mitzvah, and dingy pub that'd have them. Desperate appeals were made for a live drummer to beef up the sound. Wayne Miller emerged from the shadows of one such gig and proceeded to take the band to a new level. Which was a good thing really, as James had decided to quit. The new-look band made their storming debut at York's Fibbers, and are now lining up gigs and preparing to return to the studio with their new line-up.
