Artist History
If you want it, Red 23 has got it. With their infectious blend of catchy melodies, “Beatlesque” harmonies and songs that stick in your head, this band is one group that draws the listener in without bashing him or her over the head in order to get their attention. Part of the bands’ roots can be traced back to 1996 when guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Ken Sloat and drummer/vocalist/songwriter Drew Blumenthal were members of Nobody’s Hero, a Western MA. based modern rock trio. It was in this group that Ken and Drew honed their abilities to produce airtight harmonies together. Fast-forward several years to 1999 when Ken was attending Westfield State College. There he met Erin Ogulnick, a like-minded flutist/vocalist who he began writing songs with. Fast forward again to 2001 where all the aforementioned musicians crossed paths and started something fresh and new. Erin decided to take up the bass guitar and the unit was complete. With influences ranging across each end of the musical spectrum e.g., The Beatles, Yes, Toad the Wet Sprocket, The Police, Jimi Hendrix and more, this band’s originals offer the listener something unique yet vaguely familiar.
No matter what your preference is: classic rock, modern rock or original rock, this group has it covered. You owe it to yourself to check them out. They’ve got the goods. |
