    Artist description
"My music is about my life, about my friends lives, and about a life I have never lived." Phono front man Joe Ashton said when asked where he gets the inspiration for his music. "The force behind my music is nothing more than making the kind of music I like to hear. My music has a dimension that I think is unique in today’s market and I think that’s why so many people feel drawn by it." Phono, (though expanding for live performances) is only one man, Joe Ashton. He was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. Joe grew up teaching himself to play any instrument that he could get his hands on and listening to a style of music which was far from mainstream--especially in sheltered Utah. Phono’s concept is heavily rooted in the musical genius of bands like Nine Inch Nails, Stabbing Westward, David Bowie, Aphex Twin, Depeche Mode and others. Joe cutts across the industrial/techno world--creating a sound that is large and complicated while keeping the basic characteristics of his mentors. "The incorporation of Strings and more orchestrated instruments and mulitple harmonies voices added a whole new challenge for me. Joe says. I have noticed that people want something a little more out of music, and with an ocean of copycat pop out there, I think most people are glad to find something with a little more substance.
