Press Reviews
From LISTEN.COM "Jake Laine is a musician from Finland who sounds more American than America (the band, that is). Actually, his Blues Rock project is a well-oiled machine of traditional instrumentation, Boogie Rock riffs, and more soul than every episode of Sanford and Son combined. His songs evoke the same enthusiastic energy felt upon viewing the revelation-in-the-church-scene from The Blues Brothers for the first time. Laine's deep wailing voice sounds like he eats a sloppy plate of ribs and links for breakfast every day. His good-time music is uplifting and sure to put some commas in the bank account of whatever A&R man is lucky enough to get their hands on him first. - Eric S. "***********************************************"Jake (Laine's) unsurpassed skill as a singer/songwriter can be heard on his first CD, Determination. He masterfully combines several styles into one unique, cohesive sound. On the album you can hear not the expected cold professionalism typical of most studio wizards, but a real and sweaty rock n roll spiced with blues and soul. Jake doesn't show off with his obvious skill, but writes and performs traditional rock music." Salon Seudun Sanomat *********************************************** "Jake Laine and his rock solid band make you want to get down and groove. As a guitarist, Laine is definately the man with a killer style. In the song, "Free Ride" he unleashes his energy into a frenzied guitar solo...rhythm & blues doesn't get any better. Finland has gotten it's own Bruce Springsteen." Marko Korhonen Pohjolan Sanomat *********************************************** "Jake Laine's album grooves. He skillfully combines rock, soul, and blues. He does it so well on his CD that you cannot hear any trace of the typical Finnish garage band sound. This release is truly on an international level. Laine plays with so much passion that one could easily compare him to Delbert Clinton. With one listen, Laine will make a believer out of you. " Karjalainen *********************************************** "On Jake Laine's new CD, you can easily hear that he has a tremendous background in rhythm and blues. You can also hear that he knows his theory. What that means is that his album is not generically overproduced, which is a good thing. Determination is an album best described as Johnny Winter meets Robert Clay. And album I would gladly play more than just once in a while. Containing deep white-man blues spiced with different music styles, this is a well arranged album with versatile guitar sounds. " Tommi Pohjola Hufvudstadsbladet ***********************************************"Guitarist and singer Jake (Laine) won Finland's championship in rock music in 1971 with the groupd Battaglia. In the last decade, he has studied music in the USA. Through the years, Bagglia's melodic pop has changed into a simple but hard blues-rock similar to Huey Lewis. Jake sings and plays with assurance and his band really kicks." Jukka Hauru Helsinki Sanomat |
