Artist description
“Insert Phoenix reference here.”
Drive clawed their way onto the Brisbane music scene in 1999. The boys racked up a number shows at a multitude of venues in and around Brisbane. They’ve played a slot at the Rapid festival, had a song featured in a short-film, that was screened at the “Short Crap Film Festival”, and released their first EP “Plastic”.
Like the afore mentioned mythical creature, Drive have re-emerged from their brief hiatus at the end of 2002.
Re-invigorated and re-vamped, the two original Drive’ers, Matt Jones (guitar, vocals) and Jason Williams (vocals, guitar), have been joined by Simon Cutts (drums) and Jamie Carruthers (bass). This new line-up is already reaping the rewards from the strong platform that was laid by the first Drive team.
The Drive sound is a sum of its parts, from the varied influences and experiences of its members. From guitar churning rock, to pop, to country tinged tunes, Drive’s flexibility in their songwriting is their strength.
It is not uncommon to see the boys from Drive in or around the Brisbane venues, as they are firm believers in putting something back into the local Brisbane scene. They are fanatical supporters of the Brispop movement and are keen to see it develop into a recognised, landmark scene. To help achieve this Drive formed their own music company, My Sister Sally Music. The Company periodically ran the popular “Pop Factory” showcases, which are planned to make a return in 2003.
So, where are Drive going?
We don’t really know, but you should come along for the ride. It’s going to be a blast.
