    Artist description
Dogbowl's new CD, Fantastic Carburetor Man, is his first record where he plays every note himself. Recorded at The Eyeball Planet in New York during the wee hours of the winter, these highly melodic songs mark Dogbowl's return after a nearly four year absence from the music scene. Crude and delicate, haunting and whimsical, this new album stands out as among Dogbowl's finest.
    Musical Influences
John Lennon, Syd Barrett, KISS, Buddy Holly, John Lydon, James Joyce, Andrei Tarkovsky, Heironymous Bosch
    Artist History
Principally a painter, Dogbowl, aka Stephen Tunney, was a founding member with John S. Hall of the original King Missile (dog-fly religion). Their first two albums, Fluting on the Hump and THEY, released on Shimmy-Disc, helped define a whole new sound among artists emerging from the heated cauldrens of New York in the mid 80's. Dogbowl then went on to record several solo albums for Shimmy-Disc, the first of which was Tit! (an Opera)which featured the indie-college sub-hit "Growing Up In A Wheelchair." His next CD, "Cyclops Nuclear Submarine Captain," established Tunney/Dogbowl as a serious songwriter with songs like "South American Eye" and "Float." The following year, Stephen Tunney's first novel "Flan" was published by the much respected New York publisher Four Walls Eight Windows and he released a musical version of the book, also titled "Flan" on Shimmy-Disc. After several more records with Shimmy-Disc, including two duo CDs with Shockabilly/Bongwater's Kramer (which included much internation touring, including two tours to Japan) Dogbowl recorded two critically acclaimed discs for the french label Lithium Records, one of which was the landmark "The Zeppelin Record." As a result of this release, Dogbowl appeared on Belgium's RTBF "Interior Nuit" television program.Fantastic Carburetor Man is Dogbowl's newest album, this time released on the eccentric and uncompromising Eyeball Planet label, situated in both New York and Paris.Future releases include the eagerly awaited "Best of Dogbowl" compilation, to be released by the extraordinary 62TV Records in Belgium.

    Press Reviews
"Dogbowl Steve Tunney is a brave Ulysses of a songwriter--he knows you have to go way out there to get back home again--whose surreal and nightmarish songs float just on the other side of the scrutable." -- (Gehr) The Village Voice NYC"Songwriter extraordinaire..." -- Melody Maker (UK)"Stephen Tunney, a groovy world-maker who has invented an adolecent fantasia mindwarp that is all his own." L.A.Weekly"A novel in the rogue tradition of Don Quixote and Naked Lunch....an improvisatory, highly visual writing style..." -- Review of Contemporary Fiction
