Artist description
As rock music is further divided into genres with meaningless names like emo, power-pop, and indie-rock, Dimes exploits the entirety of it for a potent mix. Dimes brings intelligent, collaborative songwriting and nuance to a grab-bag of styles...then churns it out with overpowering volume. |

Artist History
In addition to talent, inspiration, and all the other stuff that goes into making a band, the Milwaukee-based Dimes is the product of two other factors: patience and luck. Near the end of 1999, Dave and James got together via James' musicians wanted ad (Shudder to Think, Radiohead, the Police, and Stax soul were among the influences - who could resist?). Along with a bassist, they began building the foundation of what was to become Dimes. However, they were never able to find the right voice. ...Patience Luck. When that bassist left to pursue other interests in the following summer, Tony, ex-bassist for local favorites, the Crowning, was found within a week, again, through a well-timed musicians wanted ad. Immediately influences were shared (Sunny Day Real Estate, Wilco, Hum, The Who), and offers were extended. He was the first and only bassist contacted. Probably a mistake, in retrospect (just kidding). Writing commenced, immediately. Through the next few months, the three collaborated and auditioned numerous vocalists, male and female. Though some were considered more seriously than others, there was always something missing... a lack of shared interests, scheduling conflicts, and the stereotypical artistic differences always seemed to come in the way of Dimes being a complete unit. ...More Patience Total Luck. In what might be considered a new argument to "rock the vote" (sorry), Micah happened to spot Dave while waiting in line during the 2000 presidential elections. To backtrack a bit... Dave and Micah knew each other from many gigs their old bands shared in the mid-90's in Oshkosh and Stevens Point. Micah had returned to Wisconsin a few months before after a few years out west with his band, Rhino. Dave knew the mix would work out, and after a month or so, Micah officially joined the band, making a fully functioning unit. |
