Artist History Cipher is a four member group from Long Island New York that plays it's own emotional brand of music that combines conventions from underground hip-hop, hardcore, and metal. Merging heavy breakdowns, melodocism and metal with an authentic underground hip-hop yet emotional lyrical approach, Cipher creates a very unique experience both live and in the studio. The band champions a radical pro-active approach to life and denounces the hypocrisy of western ethics. From the birth of the band's existance in 1996 spanning into the new millenium, Cipher has released 2 demo's, a self released and now out of print full-length CD ("Recognize"), a self released follow up 4 song EP (1999) entitled "Protoculture", a few tracks on numerous compilations, and unleashed an east coast tour. The summer of 2000 brought numerous out of state shows and a mini-tour to the mid west, followed by the bands' first label release, a limitted edition 6" vinyl record entitled "Burnt Halos" on Double Down Records out of Pennsylvania (www.doubledownrecs.com). Currently, it's the spring of 2001, and the band just finished up their new 7 song cd, "Antidote". It will be released on Cd by Double Down Records in June 2001 just in time for their full US tour which will take them from east to west coast (July 26-Aug 26). The vinyl release of the recording will be released by The Ides of March Label. The band feels that this recording, more than any other, captures the artistic direction and emotional energy Cipher possesses.

Press Reviews Cipher "Burnt Halos" (Double Down Records)Double Down Records stands and delivers every time, and Cipher fits right into the roster perfectly.Rapcore isn't a label that applies to Cipher, although I'm sure they get it quite often. This music metal as it gets, with great hardcore breakdowns. Not good, but great breakdowns. The vocals are occasionally rap-style oriented, but it fits perfectly.
