Artist History
"The first CD was a much sparser production, focused far more on the guitar and voice," Kopper said recently. "This time I felt like I wanted to collaborate with all these wonderful musicians I met in Montana. I don't think everyone realizes the depth of musical talent that lives here." Influenced by the geography of Montana, Kopper's songs are rich and complex, yet somehow airy.Born and raised in Minnesota, at the age of fifteen Brian convinced his parents to buy him his first guitar. He developed an early appreciation for acoustic music attending live broadcasts of the Prairie Home Companion show hosted by Garrison Keillor. Prior to moving to Missoula in 1995, Brian studied in the only U.S. program for American finger-style guitar under the direction of John Stropes at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music in Milwaukee.Currently based out of Billings, Clay Green has lived and performed in Montana for the past 20 years. Clay owns a successful business building tuned winds chimes - Winds of Montana. He has an innovative approach to percussion and has developed a hybrid drum set using ethnic percussion instruments spanning several continents. Part of Clay's set includes his own custom chimes and the recent invention of a malleted tuned chime. His signature sound involves the ability to play shaker, ride cymbal, cow bells and wood blocks with his feet. Clipper Anderson is one of the most talented acoustic bass players in the north west. Originally from Montana, Clipper lives and performs primarily as a jazz bassist in the Seattle area. Clipper is a consummate performer and his melodic approach and improvisational style permeates the music. He is known to carefully inject complex lines between phrases, giving the songs a full, driving sound. |

Press Reviews
"For anyone who's seen Missoula singer-songwriter Brian Kopper live or heard his first CD, Dreaming of the Sun his new CD will come as a revelation.” - Missoulian“BOTTOM LINE: Acoustic, yes, but ear candy, no. Brian Kopper's "In Absolute Motion" is an entrancing tapestry of music that reels and rocks, floating aimlessly at times and soaring to incredible highs. A beautiful recording.” - Missoulian“When Missoula musician Brian Kopper set out to make his second CD, he sought something vastly different from his first solo fingerstyle guitar album - something with enough "space" to allow other musicians to shine through. “In Absolute Motion”, realizes that goal in a big way, drawing upon the considerable talents not only of Kopper, but several other Montana musicians. The result is an eclectic mix of folk, jazz and world music that defies verbal description.” - Lively Times |
