Press Reviews
SPIRIT LEVEL..Review by Mark Bayross of PHASE 9. The title track has an infectious swagger rarely seen since the heady days of the Happy Mondays, the ethereal mantra of COLD DOWN has an almost gothic quality, and the fantastic lurching groove of 40 MILES (REVISITED) recalls The Chemical Brothers at their very best. Theres a ton of ideas on SPIRIT LEVEL, and with some proper financial support behind them, UK Crisis could well be huge. CROSSOVER...Despite being released on singer/songwriter Neville Merediths own RomanTown music and film label, its impeccably produced stuff, combining laid-back guitar with expansive, danceable beats and the kind of cool vocal delivery rock stars are made of. Stylistically, the record veers all over the shop, from the Mondays-esque dirty funk of ELLIVEN to the Chemical Brothers-style floor-fillers like FLOATING CITIES and extended trance of GOODBYE ADVERSITY. Despite being 24 minutes long, it seems to end all too quickly, but not before the pretty acoustic strum of TEMPTRESS has played out.Web Entertainment Awards.Com - 'Spirit Level' by uk Crisis - Independent Artist Song of the Week 12/10/2001 UK Crisis is a tight band with heavy bass lines and grinding drums, check out their happening sound! A strong bass line and entrancing drum track highlight this track! REVIEW OF 'SPIRIT LEVEL' BY DANCING DAVE (tripping in to fall/Ten Radical Dance Tunes) This is just amazingly right on. One of the best dance songs of the year. One of the best songs of the year, period. This is one UK group that can get into the funky soul grooves at the depth New York groups like Jonah Smith or MothersFavoriteChild!
REVIEW OF '40 MILES (revisited) BY MUKI (Firstboot Music) I love the backwards / forwards bass you've got going on in "40 Miles". I don't know why, but when I listened to the track, I pictured myself in a sweet ride, driving through Vegas at night, reving it in high gear.
REVIEW OF '40 MILES (revisited) BY (Destructive Criticism) I love that noise in the begining. This is not your average Techno. The bass line is great. The kick drum is that 4 thumping thing, but there's some nice percs in there as well. Interesting track. |
