Artist description
Fueled by reckless rock 'n roll abandon, excessive amplification, and even more excessive quantities of Shiner beer, The Men From Nantucket deliver high energy, blue-collar beer drinking roadhouse anthems to unruly crowds of sweaty Texans. Combining the bare-bones, heartfelt song stylings of Tom Petty with an outlaw guitar grind reminiscent of Social Distortion, TMFN are one of Austin's most energetic, entertaining, and unpredictable bands. Having played in clubs of all sizes from Austin, to Dallas, to LA, and received radio airplay on more than one Austin station, TMFN will not rest until they conquer the world or they run out of beer. |

Artist History
Singer/guitarist Jeff Maher and drummer Tim Brown formed The Men From Nantucket in the spring of 1999 following the demise of their previous band, the almost legendary El Kabong. The pair decided to move away from the driving punkabilly that had become their trademark towards a more accessible, song-based style. Jeff sequestered himself and his guitar in his room for several weeks, emerging only for Cheezits and reruns of Sanford and Son. At the end of his self-imposed incarceration, the now pasty-white would-be rockstar had written most of the songs that would appear on TMFN's debut CD, Super Balls. Now to find some bandmates...The obvious first choice to hold down lead guitar chores was "Waco" Jake Spelman. Part Dickie Betts, part pit bull, Waco and his aggressive, yet highly emotive playing were the perfect compliment to Tim and Jeff's Stones-inspired rhythm vibe. After the ill-fated first three bass players left the band in search of new and healthy livers, bassist Pat Buchta played his first show with the band in July of 2001. Already a good friend and devoted fan of the band, Pat has been a much welcomed addition to the band. Released to resounding waves of critical silence on April 15, 2000, their debut album Super Balls should reach platinum sometime in late 2058. Their sophomore effort is almost completed and slated for release in very early 2002, once the smoke clears from the record company bidding wars. |
