Artist History
The FaultsMic Harrison – guitar, lead vocalsRobbie Trosper – guitar, backing vocalsPaxton Sellers – bass, backing vocalsJason Peters – drums, backing vocals Knoxville, Tennessee’s The Faults emerged from the alt-country ashes of the V-Roys, who disbanded after two critically acclaimed records (1996’s Just Add Ice and 1998’s All About Town) on Steve Earle’s E-Squared Records. Guitarist/ songwriter Mic Harrison soon launched his solo career, taking with him fellow-Roys Paxton Sellers and Jeff Bills. The addition of Knoxville guitarist Robbie Trosper completed the band, who renamed themselves "The Faults." Within months of their inception, The Faults were selling out venues across Tennessee with their loud, raucous brand of guitar-driven rock. No longer constrained by alt-country’s frustrating limitations or their suit-and-tie professionalism, Harrison led his troops into new musical waters, drinking from the cups of Cheap Trick, Roky Erickson and AC/DC. Fans waiting for their favorite V-Roy tunes walked away with dropped jaws and ringing ears from The Fault’s distinctive set of edgy originals. Soon the group moved into Superdrag drummer Don Coffey Jr.’s home studio to record a startling collection of new material. While Harrison often had to take a songwriting backseat as a V-Roy, his unique and diverse talents with the pen come to life in characters like "Dishonest Jenny" and places like the "Poisoned Land" on The Faults’ debut. The band follows him musically from the power-pop appeal of "Let The Angel Lie" to the honky-tonk of "Whispering Goodbye" to the all-out assault of "Big Show" with unsettling precision. The Faults have already landed opening dates with Guided By Voices, Superdrag and Bare Jr. based upon the reputation of their live abilities and buzz of this first release. Jeff Bills amicably parted with the group shortly after the recording of the album, replaced with multi-talented Knoxville native Jason Peters. While comparisons to the V-Roys are inevitable, The Faults proves that the two bands are linked more by history than musical similarities. More importantly, it proves that The Faults are a promising, powerful band with one great record already in their catalog. This is pure rock & roll; music built on soul, energy and loud guitars. There are veteran bands across the country that would sell their bass player to capture what The Faults found on their first collective trip to the studio.Just imagine what the future holds. |
