Artist description Through an odd twist of fate, a band has formed. Not odd in the sense that their music would force an upward thrust of an eyebrow, combined with an audible, upward inflected "huh?"; but odd in that the three members (literally odd in number and twisted in perspective) are distinctly similar and yet liberally diverse. The similarity begins with the simple fact that none are female, and ends with the peculiar detail that each has received an identical design degree from the same Philadelphia university (in three consecutive years). Far outside the reaches of the school - in which they once, almost unknowingly, co-existed and from which they discretely fled - Tom H. [bass] (fresh out of his first experience with a reasonably successful and demanding band) picked up his cordless phone and pushed seven numbered buttons with restrained confidence. James F. [percussion/bac-vocals], recipient of this first of two calls, was eager (a year after his first experience with a fairly successful and demanding band) to once again drag his drum kit out of the basement to set it upon regional, beer-soaked, adhesively-challenged, club stages. After a few rhythm-section-only sessions, the need for a more cohesive musical focus was indisputable - thus seven new numbers were tapped out on the phone. Chris Hanley [vocals/guitars] (just after his last, tolerably successful and demanding final exam) answered the phone ... and Fate grinned.To be an original band devoid of palpable musical influences, is to be freakish island dwellers, raised in seclusion, eating various berry-based dishes and fearing the wild boar. Regardless of influences of the obvious and not-so-obvious varieties, there is no denying the strength of simplicity in tom chris james' music: Chris' strong, warm, and charismatic voice carries over rhythmic strumming; Tom's jazz-induced grooves settle back into a position of subtle power; and James' tight, palpitating patterns add the final support to this trio's funky, folk-rock-esque sound (if categories need mention).
