Artist description
SUPERDOT has proven themselves a dramatic and visually stimulating act. Their style focuses on the fun side of music, and seldomly harps on political issues or "do gooder" causes. Whether they sing about war, disease, famine or their fascination with the mentally challenged, legless, armless and Diet Pepsi, the band employes an eclectic blend of musical influences to produce their distinct, horn driven music. SUPERDOT has not necessarily followed the path blazed before them . . . they have definitely got their own ska thing going for them? (Denver Ska Beat Winter 97).Each member of SUPERDOT offers their own influences to the band's work. Jeremy Abbey (Michigan All-State Jazz Baritone Saxophonist 1996) relies on Jazz, Reggae and classic '60s style Jamaica n ska for his inspirations while Charlie looks to the drummings of Animal from the Muppets. Keith "Guitar Face" DePoorter (Michigan All-State Jazz Guitarist 1996, 1997) borrows heavily from early Blues and Jazz recordings. Other strong influences in SUPERDOT's artillery include Big Band and Jump Blues, as well as modern pop and rock. |

Artist History
It was the Summer of 1993 when Bobby Barnes, Jeremy Abbey, Chris Hooper and a handful of unimportant losers decided to get together to re-invent the jamaican ska styles of the late 60s, 70s and early 80s. Nine years and numerous member changes later they've weeded out the non-hackers who couldn't pack the gear to serve in their beloved core. Inspired by wackiness and driven by the courage of alcohol and underdogs workdwide, they've captured the fun, recklessness and even the darkside of ska. SUPERDOT is one of the freshest and most innovative ska bands from the Detroit area.. |
