No wonder that even at that earlystage of Petar’s career a critic in well known Yugoslavian newspaper wrote: “Petar Jankovic presented himself as guitarist with talent and power. His performance showed us his skillful virtuosity as well as his beautiful and expressive lyricism.”, Politika Expres(Belgrade, Yugoslavia). After beginning his guitar studies at age 8, Petar had his first professional performance at age 16. Atage 20, the Community College in Belgrade invited young and talented Jankovic, already anaward-winning musician, to teach beginning classical guitar students. This was the start of a lastingteaching career which developed along the performing career. In 1996 he was invited to the UnitedStates to pursue the prestigious Artist Diploma Degree at the Indiana University School of Music under the guidance of Maestro Ernesto Bitetti. In 1997 while still finishing his graduate degree, hecreated a guitar program at the Franklin College, Indiana. Currently, Jankovic teaches classical guitarat the Franklin College, IU School of Music and at the University of Indianapolis. In 1998 Jankovic has released his CD “Romantico”. With this recording Petar explores the sound ofthe romantic Spanish and Latino-American world featuring compositions by famous composers suchas Albeniz, Torrobba, Pipo, Piazzolla, Ponce ... Marija Ciric, music reviewer in “Politika”-the mostimportant daily newspaper in Belgrade (Yugoslavia) had this to say about Petar’s CD: “Jankovic isa musician of a strong artistic personality, with the infinite subtlety of expression. Apartfrom being very musical, Jankovic also possesses technical mastery, manifest in his preciseand carefully defined way of playing. He is one of those artists capable of extraordinarymusical achievementes.” All Petar’s accomplishments and recognition make Jankovic a rising star among the world’s bestyoung musicians today. However, the statement of Luis Zea, well-known composer and guitaristfrom Venezuela, may be the best way to describe the essence of Petar’s artistic personality: ”He isa natural poet!” |
