    Artist History
MariZen is a Chicago based Power/pop/rock band. The music is melodic, full of hooks and catchy riffs, as well as expressive lyrics driven by female vocals. The band has played some of the finest venues in Chicago such as the House of Blues, Metro, Double Door, Hard Rock Cafe, ElboRoom, Beat Kitchen, Navy Pier, etc.... The band formed in late January 2001 and quickly emerged into the Chicago local music scene. The band's original lineup took them through well over thirty local shows in 2001, including a debut cd release party. With Patrick T. Doody producing, they released their debut full length album "CANVAS" on July 29, 2001. On June 1, 2002, the zen band released their second cd entitled "The 2002 EP." In July 2002, the band headed out to Los Angeles CA for ten day / 3 gig tour. While in LA, they filmed a 30 minute video with Live Unsigned. Later that month, Michael Hernandez offered MariZen a two year management contract with Cap Gem + Associates and a distribution division from Dreamworks. Track 1 off of the 2002 EP. "Star" will be remixed, and recut with a different producer. On September 7, 2002, MariZen sold track 3 "The Wind" off of the 2002 EP to Dreamworks SKG for studio use for an upcoming movie "On the Road" coming out in 2004. While attending the Bandbreakthrough conference on Sept 14, 2002 at the Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles, CA. Mari Calip had private meeting sessions with Scott Austin of Maverick Records, Peter Torres of Elektra, Darin Harmon of Nettwerk, and Steven Rosen from RKO. Lead singer Mari Calip has been fortunate to play with a number of great musicians within these past 2 years. She has worked with such great guitarists as Glen Gilbert, Patrick Caputo, Andy Noonan, Ben Howarth, Oskar Sanchez and Sri Lau. She's been fortunate to work with great drummers Victor Salazar, Patrick T. Doody,Tim Lydon and Jim Caiafa. Among the fine bassists were Paul Doerr, and Justin Francoise. She also got to work with great celloists Lauren Schweitzer, and Cynthia Pekron. As far as melodies and harmonies, these parts would not have been possible without the beautiful harmonies of Amanda Elliott, Amy Harrisson, and Carrie Lydon. Now, 2003 brings a whole new Zen! With Mike Greene on guitar, Marty Kane on drums, and Chris Shen on bass, there is a new band with totally fresh material! You will see a 3 song demo release as well as a full length CD this year! With the season changing soon, who knows what will come next. The band definitely has big plans ahead . They will continue networking with other bands, and hitting the streets with promotions in the music community, but more importantly, they will continue writing music!
