Artist History
Kirsten began singing as a child in a Southern Baptist-esque church in Southern Maine, where she grew up. In college, she joined a traditional jazz band and performed at the prestigious Sacramento Jazz Jubilee as well as the Annapolis Jazz Festival. During her college years at Georgetown, she also performed her first pop, dance and soul tunes at a yearly benefit concert. Hooked on the energy and power of performing popular music, she set her sights on a career in music and headed to New York after graduation. In her first few years in NYC, she wrote and sang for bands Miki Finn, XSpot and Amy Says. She toured throughout the Northeast with these bands, honing her songwriting and stage skills. Having learned a great deal from her band experiences, but also having struggled to find her own voice and follow an ambitious dream of really making life-long a career for herself in the music business, Kirsten knew she had to go out on her own.So after several years of working as the front person of various band projects, Kirsten withdrew from the scene. She rented a seaside cottage and spent summer days alone with a guitar, a pen and a notebook, wrestling with her own creativity. What, she wondered, should her music convey? What did she know? What did she care about? Her days alone produced a new dedication and a new energy. She went back to her musical roots, the jazz of her college days, but also the rock and R&B she grew up listening to. And she crafted the songs that can be heard on Kirsten's solo debut "She Really Is." Her experiences, her words, her music |
