Artist description
Blue Onion, a rockin' power trio from Kalispell, MT was formed in 1998. The band has some blues roots, but the rest of this tree rocks. Blue Onion is not just another blues band. Their variety of music includes tunes from Atlanta Rhythm Section to a raging version of ZZ Top's La Grange, along with a wide array of original tunes. The hard work ethics that all three members practice during their day jobs carries over into their musical performances. There's definitely no slouching on stage as this three-piece band keeps the sound busy and energetic. With Ken's heavy rockin' blues influence, Chris' heavy metal and classical influence, and Ron's hard and classic rock influence, you can't go wrong. Definitely mark a date on your calendar to see these guys. |

Ken Sederdahl - Lead Guitar/VocalsBorn in Rutherford, New Jersey and relocated to Eureka, Montana, at the age of 11 (a big culture shock). My family and I lived eight miles out of town in an area called Pinkham Creek. In 1984 at age 21, I had a motorcycle for sale and this hippy dude wanted it real bad and asked if I would trade an Ibanez Electric guitar for it. Having no musical experience other than playing a little bit of accordian at age 7, I wasn't really interested, but thought maybe I could sell it for more than the bike. So I made the deal and just for the heck of it, the hippy dude threw in a lesson and taught me how to play Sweet Home Alabama. I've been pluckin' ever since. Having 4 older brothers, I've been influenced by every band from the Beatles to ZZ Top. My biggest influences are Robbin Trower, Eric Clapton, Gary Moore, Stevie, Jimi, and Bily Gibbons. Finally hooked up in 1997 with Ron Foster (current drummer) and formed a band called Sky Dogs. Then in the summer of '98 Blue Onion was formed. We lost our bass player in the winter of '98 and hooked up with Chris Coen who breathed some new fire into Blue Onion. We are currently now a happy rockin' 3 piece.**************************************Ron Foster - Lead PercussionsI was born in Phoenix, Arizona, and raised in Ventura, California. My first band experience was playing with my brother at age 16. I joined a gospel group which played on the road when I was 18 and played with them until I was 22. At 23, I gave up my drums to get married (bad choice). In 1989 I moved to Kalispell, Montana and picked up my drumsticks again in 1991. I joined the Sky Dogs in 1997 which was renamed Blue Onion in September of 1998. As they say...the rest is history. My most important influences have been John Bonnum, Mitch Mitchell, Gil Moore, Matthew Abts and the Black Crows.************************************Chris Coen - Lead Bass/VocalsIn 1987 I started learning the upright bass in Orchestra at Moanalua Jr. High in Honolulu, HI. In 1989 I moved to Kalispell, Montana and continued playing in orchestra as First Chair Bassist. I earned all state ratings in high school and played with a local choral group, The Glacier Orchestra and Choral. In 1992 I graduated from Flathead High School and lost access to an Upright Bass. I started playing a used electric 4-string and became electrified. From 1993-1997 I played with a local trio garage band called Helpless. I played bass, my brother Russ played electric guitar, and Phil Allen played drums. As a garage band we never got out and played much - we mostly worked on original tunes as well as a hefty dose of covers from Iron Maiden and Rush. The trio Helpless finally broke up the summer of '97. Without an outlet for playing, my brother Russ and I became part of Free Dyrt (I put the "y" in dyrt), a local 7 piece band. We mostly worked on originals and got gigs wherever and whenever we could. We loved to jam and have fun with the music. In January of 1999 I joined up with Blue Onion as a fill in for their bassist Tim who couldn't make the gig and have found myself filling in ever since. Juggling my time with Free Dyrt and Blue Onion became too chaotic so something had to give. My prior experience with Helpless (another 3-piece) made my decision for me. Playing in a blues band had never crossed my mind but it has turned into an exciting playing field where our energy bounces off one another. I would say we're not your traditional blues band. We like to rock it and we like to play it hard. It's always a good time and I feel fortunate to be able to play with Ron and Ken. |
