Artist History
Vengeance Bio:
You come back with a Vengeance my youth, Vengeance recalls the statement that gave him his stage name. After he recorded a song off-key, Brooklyn based producer wordizbon gave him a copy of the track and told him to get it right before recording again. The crafty wordsmith went home and proceeded to perfect his art. Upon his return to the studio the following day he ripped the track to shreds. It was during this recording session a brethren name challis said, You come back with a Vengeance my youth, From then on whenever Donovan Senior grabbed a microphone he would be known as Vengeance.
Donovan Senior was born on November 27th 1978 in Kingston Jamaica. However, Due to political unrest and violence, in the island at that time his parents relocated to the parish of Manchester where he spent most of his youth. After his parents
split at the age of 7 he went to live with his grand mother. It was while
living with his grandmother, older brother and uncles he began to show
interest in music. He found a large collection of records which consisted of artists like Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, The Temptations, Prince Buster, General Echo and Jimmy Cliff; which belonged to his father and uncles; He was told by people in the neighborhood that they use to have a huge sound system called "Senior Soul" which catered for most
local parties. He began to spin his father’s old records. He developed such a
passion for the music that he would save his lunch money just to buy records
of his own, He remembers that the first record he bought was "Glamorous" By
Terror Fabulous. Eventually he had such a wide selection of tunes people
started asking him to play at the local events in the neighborhood. One
night he had a sound clash with another local sound named Black Prophet,
the dance went on for so long that they both ran out of tunes and started
Djaying (Jamaican rapping). It was here he realized he could not only play
music but make it as well, when he made up lyrics on the spot, which won
him the clash. . Around this time in 1995 he had just completed his studies at St.
Elizabeth Technical High School (ST.E.T.H.S) a well-known institution on Jamaica’s south coast. He then migrated to Brooklyn New York to attend College. He enrolled at
Bmcc in 1996 where he immediately got involved with the Caribbean Students
association. With the help of the CSA he got a chance to perform at the
annual Cari-fests Held at many Colleges in New York such as
Bmcc, Baruch, Hunter, Binghampton and eventually local Brooklyn Clubs where he has opened shows for acts such as Rayvon, Mr. Easy, Screechy Dan, Red Foxx and Naturally. Vengeance, is currently working on his self-titled debut album. With a distinctive voice, sharp lyrical skills and a style like no other Vengeance is sure to bring something new and innovative to the dancehall reggae community and the world.
