Artist History
Life is something that happens to you when you wake up from a dream and the waking reality isn’t always pleasant. This is the theme that Toronto-based five-piece band ultraLOfreq explore in their music. ultraLOfreq blend tender, coming-of-age lyrics with beautiful harmonies into resonating guitar-heavy tapestries of sound. ultraLOfreq takes listeners on a roller coaster ride of intensity and emotion. In the spirit of Canadian rock, ultraLOfreq grabs hold of sound waves and takes them on a journey of raw rhythm. ultraLOfreq formed three years ago when Starnumb/Dead Flowers bassist Daniel Baker recruited drummer Darryl Pynn and guitarist Rob Swift, formerly with the Toronto band Curb Biter. Lead vocalist Ron Dykstra joined the group after striking up a friendship with Baker in local bar. After the departure of Swift who wanted to pursue other interests, Kelly Curtis, formerly of the band PI, joined the group and completed an almost seamless transition. Recently, ultraLOfreq parted ways with Ron Dykstra and is very excited about it’s two newest members: Alex Morin on lead vocals/guitars and keyboardist Dave Parker who have both added a lush new dynamic to the band and a renewed sense of energy and commitment. In four short years ultraLOfreq has attracted a loyal and growing fan base. Their reputation has been steadily spread by word-of-mouth and emphasized at high-energy performances in Toronto and at out-of-town festivals. ultraLOfreq has attracted the attention of Bif Naked, who asked them to open for her May 1, 1998 show at Lee’s Palace. They never looked back. ultraLOfreq teamed up with Mike Fletcher, soundman at Clinton’s and co-owner of Ravensound, to work on their debut album, ‘le grand gros EP’. The album, distributed by Indie Pool, has been receiving airplay on college and university radio stations across Canada. ultraLOfreq continues to prove that rock music can have guts and emotion |
